There's to be a service at Westminster Abbey today reflecting on the recent atrocity near parliament. It will be attended by representatives of diverse faiths...some of whom will give a reading.

Its a shame that humanists are rarely, if ever, invited to comment in a non-religious way on tragic events of this nature.

Per Wikipedia :

Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and affirms their ability to improve their lives through the use of reason and ingenuity as opposed to submitting blindly to tradition and authority or sinking into cruelty and brutality.

Awful events affect us all, irrespective of faith and irrespective of the motives of the perpetrators.

Those that believe in god and truly believe that he above all others has the answer in preventing such as this and can offer support and forgiveness towards those responsible for the actions, but those that have no religious convictions but are very noteworthy and intelligent beings like those mentioned, do not receive an invite. Religion is a club, if you don't fit in, you don't get in.
