When I was staying Hurghada recently I was surprised by the number of people who were walking round with this stick stuck out in front of them. Some even had them at breakfast in the hotel, what on earth is so earth shattering that you have to film yourself eating breakfast. These people don't seem to notice what is going on around them just what they are filming. I can imagine them getting home boring everyone with their films and saying "Oh I didn't notice that!" Ban the sticks.

Absolutely!
My eyes glaze over when a friend fishes out his/her smartphone and starts trawling through the minutiae of his/her life over the last week.
Spare me

I can't remember where it was, China perhaps, has placed a ban on the use of these selfie sticks in certain areas as being a danger to the public. Have you seen the length of some of the telescopic ones?

Just another example of how sad some peoples lives really are, walking around head down, eyes glued to their phone oblivious to their surroundings and even taking a photo of their meal and putting it on social media. I can accept someone taking the odd snap to show their friends, but photographing a burger? But surely the worst offenders are those with a huge tablet/phone holding them up above their heads and obscuring the view for everyone else standing or sitting behind them.

Ignorance used to be, before the advent of the mobile, a hit or miss affair were people are concerned, you either was or wasn't. But these contraptions have made it a growing art for most that own one.
