He did do this sketch of the el Luxor Hotel in 1978 or 1979

He had been to Egypt earlier and in 1963 did this sketch, Shell Garage Luxor, which is a libel both on the great leader and Egyptian dentistry, Clearly the modern masters of Luxor graffiti have ancestors. Someone should tell the people at the Luxor Fine Arts Institute (?) of the Upper Egypt Uni.

His Grand Procession of Dignitaries, in semi Egyptian style allegedly dates from 1961 – if that it is true it predates his first Egyptian trip:

As does this portrait from 61, First Marriage, with the wife in Egyptian headdress.

And Man in a Museum allegedly from 1962

His Great Pyramid of Giza With Broken Head From Thebes, 1963 – his first overseas trip just after graduation, sold for Stg3.5 million plus a few years ago – maybe some lunatic will claim it back as stolen Egyptian art.

In 1966 he did a series of lithos on the great, but airbrushed out, Egyptian poet Cavafy. Its amazing that one of the 20th Century’s greatest poets doesn’t get a mention in Egypt. Here is one of the lithos.

At a later stage he used Egyptian images for stage designs for a production of The Magic Flute.
There is a deal more. Clearly he was stimulated by what he saw in Egypt.
For those who want more there is a 2002 book by AUC on Hockney in Egypt – not really - https://books.google.com.au/books/about ... edir_esc=y
