Ah but your English.
Went for my visa today which I got no problem but I asked Ahmed behind the counter how his Mum was, "not well" was the reply, "Oh dear what's the matter with her?" "She's old and you know what it's like when you are old your health is not good, she is 60." I told him that 60 was still young and that she should have good health I was over 60 and felt fine. Then the reply "Ah yes but your English."
I had to go back at 1.30 to pick up the passport, 2.45 I was still waiting for the General to sign it, I was dying to use the loo and said to Ahmed again I would go to the Sonesta because I needed the toilet but would come straight back. No no wait, off he went then beckoned me into the General's office he has a lovely toilet shower room off his office and I could use that. Thanked him on my way out and he said, "We like the English." My lucky day all round.
Up the English.

Re: Ah but your English.
Especially the ones that are related to "Money Cows" Carrie!!! No some are fine its just they get their English language in the wrong context.
English are the best forget the rest ---- They give us the most money being the real meaning
We Egyptians love the English ----- Especially the women
Fellucca or Carriage or Taxi ---- We can screw the most money out of the English.
Come on people don't live in cloud cuckoo land you know the score stop hiding from it... I only met 3 genuine people while in my 8 years that you could trust to shop for you and bring back the right change.

Re: Ah but your English.
You know MT I really despair, why you stayed here so long I have no idea. I find Egyptians kind funny and on the whole generous. Sure go to the souk and they will give you outlandish prices for what you want to buy. Marry some 18 year old who professes that you are the love of his life and give him money well who's fault is that. Did he hold a gun against your head and demand money. More fool you.
Most people here I find, respond to the way they are treated. I don't use Egyptians as servants to go do my shopping I do my own I have a good relationship with the local shopkeepers and they don't cheat me. The other day on my way to the ferry I had no change so went in a shop to buy water, unfortunately they decided that I would be better paying for it later, so off I went with my purchase to try elsewhere to get change, the bread shop, no change pay me later madam. In the end I borrowed another 1le off the shop owner to catch the ferry. Don't tell me that you could go in a shop anywhere else walk out with the goods and be trusted to return and pay.
The arrogance and miss understanding you displayed whilst living here has a lot to do with the way you were treated. It's not the Raj, Egyptians some may be poor, some may be ill educated, they may appear rude sometimes but take the trouble to get to know something of the culture and the people and I believe they are some of the greatest people. I certainly think they are better than a lot of ex pats who do nothing but whine and whinge.
Such a pity you lived here so long and learnt so little.

Re: Ah but your English.
And there is the nub of the argument, all people deserve respect and even if technically they are employed as a servant you still treat them as a human being and as you yourself would wish to be treated, but some people never learn the meaning of respect.I don't use Egyptians as servants

I don't think so Carrie, I just learned quicker and left my eye's opening to what was happening, notice again the club got together same old likes
I would have a field day if any of you were to leave Luxor, even if to have treatment because you did not trust the system.....

Re: Ah but your English.
No doubt you would MT, but that just demonstrates the difference between people celebrating someone's misfortune or ill health wouldn't appeal to me.

It irritates the hell out of him that some of us live happily in Egypt despite its numerous problems.carrie wrote:No doubt you would MT, but that just demonstrates the difference between people celebrating someone's misfortune or ill health wouldn't appeal to me.
It must really get up his nose that tourism is increasing.
True...a number ill-suited to ex-pat life here have left with their tails between their legs having been fleeced of large sums.
The world is full of losers. Cyprus has just gained one.

Exactly Newcastle, loser is absolutely right. I'm determined not to respond to any of his posts, no matter how irritating, it just encourages his nonsense.

Wouldn't make an iota of difference whether anyone, or no-one, acknowledged his existence.Yildez wrote:Exactly Newcastle, loser is absolutely right. He posts on here like some people talk to their cat...or themselves. A response is neither here nor there.
I don't find him irritating.....just ignorant, bitter, twisted.....and sad.

At least he seems happy enough with what he spouts on about on here. There must be at least one person on the planet that is unhappy about everything that exists so at least there is one genuine person beneath him... mmm he's married...
