More help needed with my Acer laptop
I can't open my operating page.
This is what I normally do.
Switch on, after a few seconds the screen lights up with the time and date. The only icons showing are the battery charge status, full, and the internet.
I then left click which opens the welcome banner, my name and the active eight pin pass word facility. I have never put the wrong password in. After the password is put in, it then opens my operating page and away I go.
After many attempts of switching the computer off then back on the left click is not opening the log on page, so I can not use the computer, although the time and date does disappear. I can put it back on the screen by pressing the home button, but am still unable to open the operating screen. Any suggestions?

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
No help from me I'm afraid Dusak I have problems of my own.
My Crome page opens up off center, slightly to the right, so that the icons to maximize minimize and close are off the screen. I have tried putting the little arrow on the corner of the screen and dragging it further left but it doesn't work, what to do?

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
Carrie, have you not just tried clicking the small square (top right) between the - and the X sign?

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
Yes that's the problem it's not there it's off the screen. I have no problem with Internet explorer that opens perfectly it's just Crome that's to one side.

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
Can't you just left click your mouse on the blank area at the top of the page and while holding it down drag the whole page to the left so you can see those icons and then click the square box to resize the page?

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
Nope that doesn't work but found if I left click on the blank bit at the top a toolbar comes down and I can maximize from that and it shows the scroll bar at the side. Not perfect but.....

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
Anyone else having long no service periods with TE Data? I managed to get internet this morning after another ten hour cut off, one of many this month. Now it seems this other lap top has been taken over by the Chinese. My Crome page has gone, to be replaced by an animated screen saver of very low quality with an entry bar stating ''hello, what are you searching for?'' Managed to translate it to English. So tried my Fire Fox, same thing with that one, tried my IE, same there. So I re downloaded my Crome, but the same unwanted screen appeared. Its not stopped my getting access to my favorites or logging in, just wondering if any one has had the same unwanted issue.

MY chrome page has changed too hence the off to one side issue, mine is in English though. TE date or We as it is now I had a disagreement with last week I just asked what I was paying for it certainly wasn't internet access.
On the 22nd of this month my internet will be cut off because it always is on the 22nd, my internet is due to be paid on the 28th but come the 22nd off it goes. Ring them sorry we will reinstate it straight away.

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
Carrie, have you tried re-setting the page?
Go to Settings (on your main start up menu) > Display > Resolution
It could be that it's that which needs re-setting. I know I had a problem like yours years ago and it did the trick for me.
Also, you mention you have a toolbar at the side. Is that where you normally have it? If not, you should be able to put it to the bottom or top of the page if you'd prefer. That should be in page set up somewhere too.

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
There was a documentary or some news clip (I will try and source it for you) that discussed something similar to what you say who2, the truth though was that Apple gave free laptops and tabs etc to a huge proportion of the TV media, news etc which resulted in free advertising for Apple.Who2 wrote:check out every TV presenters lap top and they ain't.... BTW: I did own a few versions of the Iphone so I am not for or against Apple products, there is positives and negatives in both systems

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
I've decided to ship my Acer off to an Egyptian tech expert to help solve my access problem, so that should be interesting as it holds all my log in passwords, so if you suddenly read new posts from me and say to yourself, ''that doesn't sound like our old Dusak,'' then in all probability it aint. My other lappy has got rid of the new search page itself, no no more worries there. I enjoy an apple pie.

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
I really look forward to Who2 explaining the technologyOne day you might, just might ? understand the technology,
A man opens his box and starts to set up his new computer, but very soon realises that he cannot get it to work.
So phoning the help desk he explains his problem.
“Have you turned the power on?” the technician asks
“Where do I do that” the customer asks
After explaining this the technician asks “Is it working now?”
Customer, “Er no”
Technician, “Have you logged on?”
Customer, “there is no log in the box”
This goes on for some time including the technician trying to explain about ‘a mouse’ and what ‘booting the computer’ really means.
After about 30 minutes the technician says “Do you still have the box it came in?”
Customer, “Yes”
Technician, “then box it all back up again and take it back to the shop where you bought it from”
Customer, “what shall I tell them, that it is faulty and they should exchange it?”
Technician, “No, tell them I said to give you your money back”
Customer “Why is that?”
Technician,
Spoiler
“Because you are too fecking stupid to use one”

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
In 1994 we had four 'geeks using Mac's trying to explain to me the idea of an internet cafe.
"So where's the money in that ? a coffee & a computer.
How wrong was I, We took the internet into Sarajevo, We also had the first on-line pirate radio station Heart.
And we supplied the Teeba Prep School with all their IT.
And I still really can't be ar*ed to try to pretend I understand it even to this day!....Tekinology ?.....
Ps: So, Facebook has stolen all my information, could I really give 'a donkey's...I finally got to Cambridge...

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
One of the first computer designers was asked "How many do you think there will be eventually?"
"Mmm, not more than about half a dozen" was his reply.

Re: More help needed with my Acer laptop
In the early days of domestic computer advertising, it used to rile me/crack me up laughing that apparently women would "find them invaluable for storing all their recipes" (no other use ever mentioned). So that meant they had to type them all up, as there were no scanners then, instead of just reading their recipe books. Rubbish idea, men.
