4 BOOKS

Post by carrie »

I did a lot of reading whilst away but four books in particular I really enjoyed.
Antony Stattin... The Pharaohs Shadow.
Looks to Pharonic history and traces some of the similarities that are still current in Egypt.

Anne de Courcey The Fishing Fleet.
All about the girls who went to India looking to find themselves husbands during the Raj.

Louis de Berniers Birds without wings.
Life in a small village in Turkey before the expulsions. A lovely book.

David Guterson Snow Falling on Ceders
A murder mystery but so much more that that, based in America after the second world war a Japanese American is accused of murder.

Lynne has read two of the books you mention Carrie, and agrees they are very good.. Mind you I hardly ever see her without a book in her hand. But sooner that than a flaming Smartphone bleeping and making noises, and killing conversation.. She also reads an IPad and a Kindle. Love her to bits when she is reading and the Soaps are on!!

Yes, they did Dusak.

Anthony Sattin's has been discussed on here not that long ago. I recommend his on the history of tourism in Egypt: Lifting the Veil.

He has been a co-auther of the latest (released July) and previous Lonely Planet's Egypt guides.
