My connection to
www.luxor4u.com/forum.... is showing "Not secure".
I haven't noticed this before. Should I be worried?
Not that I intend to post passwords or credit card details

No need to worry, we don't need to be a SSL site, you are only sending "Text" over the internet, if you were using a credit card to pay for something then it needs to be Encrypted (secure) the address would be HTTPS instead of HTTP.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security protocol for establishing encrypted links between a web server and a browser in an online communication. The usage of SSL technology ensures that all data transmitted between the web server and browser remains encrypted.

Is it true then that any postings can be read by, for example, the UK government.....should they so desire.
I have always assumed this to be the case. but does the Egyptian government similarly have any way of accessing information posted on L4U, notwithstanding that it is not an Egyptian website?
How easy/difficult would it be for them to access the email or identity of any poster.....information given to you when becoming a forum member?
And would moving from HTTP to HTTPS make any difference?

Anyone with a membership can read the posts and have the same permissions like you have, so the Government would have to be a member to read the members only area's posts which is most of the forum, they can not read email addresses, PM's or IP address.
There is no information held that could identify a member to a real person.
HTTPS is only really used for secure transactions and would not benefit the forum in anyway, since the only thing your submitting is a text post.

I notice that certain browsers are now displaying this, instead of the old grey padlock for plain http (as opposed to https) sites -nothing to worry about in the case of L4U.
