Tourist Police contact details

Post by Annie » Mon May 13, 2019 1:41 pm

Does anyone have a phone number for the tourist police and do you know if their English is good when I phone them?

This is from Lonely Planet website (I dont know how old it is though)

Ambulance 123
Police 122
Luxor Medical Center 095-228-4092
Tourist Police 095-237-6820

If your calling from the UK I would expect it to be +20 95-237-6820

I would expect the tourist police especially if you get through to an higher ranking officer to speak English :)

122 is no good they speak little English and normally just put the phone down on you

If the above number does not work, the number they had 5+ years ago was 095 237 6620 from UK +20 95 237 6620

Go to Hamees Pub, see Gadala he used to translate for them, a useful tool when dealing with the 'blue-meanies... 8)

Maybe easier to go and see them? They are situated near the railway station. If you are standing with railway station in front of you, take the road to the right. Walk down there , and on the left there is a sign for tourist police office. They are not open until 9pm though. They don’t speak English, they will phone for a translator, and you have to pay him.

I'm not in Egypt, but I really need to speak to a police officer, I've left it for another day but can't leave it any longer, what's the use of tourist police if they don't speak English :-(

A very poignant observation...But 'remember this is Egypt!
Amdowla (SP) employ a rather nice interpreter who is married to a nice English lady.

Your best bet is to speak to my lawyer Ahmed Badry.... 8)

What is Amdowla (SP) ? Thanks for the link to your lawyer but my experience of lawyers is they're out for all they can get, I just need someone to speak to the police for me

Annie I don't honestly think that ringing the police is much good, they don't speak very good English and usually have to send for an interpreter to understand what you want and dealing with someone on the phone is often much more difficult.
Have you tried ringing the Embassy and asking them for any suggestions they may have. They do have a list of lawyers on their web site who speak English but beware the lawyers on the list are NOT recommended by the Embassy they are just listed because of their ability to speak English, they have not been vetted in any way, and like you I have a deep distrust of any lawyer here.
When will you be able to return here? It may be an idea to give a close and trusted friend power of attorney to help deal with your problem.

I tried them once before they did just send a list of lawyers, I'm trying to get through to the Egyptian Embassy in London but waste of time you need to know who you want to talk to and leave a message for them. I'm trying a friend of a friend now.

Might have guessed you would use Ahmed El Badery Dr. Made to take time out and used a lawyer in Luxor to do his work. Mind you might be the cheapest. But my advice is use the Tourist Police for everything including court cases, Lawyers will drag things along forever to charge more, and watch out for the leaches advising you of Lawyers, they are generally on commission from the Lawyer.

Regarding tourist police, made a complaint about a man in Luxor, and used a translator. They took a full statement and said would interview him. Details were sent to court, and we were given a court number . However we were only in Luxor for ten days, and the court case did not come up before we left. Any ideas, what would have happened in our absence? Thrown out because we were not there? Receptionist at our hotel said if it had been sent to court, there would have to be an outcome. Any ideas?

Re your comments:Ahmed El Badry
I have had quite a few lawyers in the UK & here, I have never had a problem with any of them.
And paid them all very little monies.

Ahmed I have known for over 20 years, all ways introducing himself to one and all as my 'liar.
Many women hate him many women love him, he also knows everybody who is anybody.
And also a bit of a local TV star.

When I first met him I found out all about him, I did my homework! his village, his relations & homes ect.

I also threatened him with some 'extreme violence if he f**** me over, it worked and he has loved me ever since,
He's met most of my visiting guests and between you and me helped run a charitable institution.

I am pleased to call him a friend and No Fool, unlike many people I have met....'we rest our case m'lud!.... 8)

Ps: And, Who on Earth wants an 'honest lawyer ?.......... straits & idiots that's who...
There is No such thing as an Honest Lawyer, haven't you yet heard ?
