They’re at it again.....
Hours before its premiere in Egypt, Marvel’s latest blockbuster film ‘Eternals’ was reportedly banned for depicting same-sex relationships!

Bohemian Rhapsody - for which Egyptian-American actor Rami Malek won an oscar - was only shown in Egypt after scenes alluding to Freddie Mercury’s homosexuality were removed. Malik himself received a lot of criticism in Egyptian media....torn between their desire to laud the success of an Egyptian but anxious to align themselves with Egyptian society’s repugnance of homosexuality.
To their credit, the producers of Marvel have declined to make any adjustments pandering to Egyptian sensibilities. Lead actress Angelina Jolie described their attitude as “ ignorant”.
The film has been banned by most Gulf states. The censorship mechanism in Egypt is still debating the issue. Watch this space!
No queers here...thank you!

I really don't know what to think of this!
On one hand, we have a substantial, even majority, movement which berates the West for its former imperialistic (military and commercial) attitudes. But then, that self-same movement goes bonkers because "ignorant" Egyptian society and government won't accept the West's relaxed stance on freedom of sexual preferences and morals in general, amongst other things.
Where are we supposed to go from here?

What I find difficult to get my mind around is the sheer futility of this - and similar - moves by some elements of Egyptian society.
I can understand the almost universal animosity towards homosexuality. They are indoctrinated from birth with the belief that same-sex relationships are abhorrent and unnatural. No amount of scientific or sociological evidence is going to convince them otherwise.
But, in today’s world, with almost everyone having access to the internet, what is the point in trying to shield the population from whatever debauchery is reckoned to be rampant in the West.
If I know anything about human nature, it’s that banning something simply increases its “attractiveness “.
And I don't think Egypt has anything to teach us on the subject sex and morals. They are somewhere near the top of the league of consumers of porn.
Hypocrisy is hardwired into their DNA.

Egypt is one of those countries that will never change its stance on, as they see it, the Wests willingness to engage, support and acknowledge and not condemn this wholly natural gender. I think this film will soon be on my free films on my satalight package, as quite a few have been of late, such as the new Bond movie 3 days after its release, which turned out to be possibly the worst Bond film ever made.
