Postponing your trip - Russia
I'm planning to have 5 weeks in Luxor during the summer break. Someone suggested that I should postpone it in case of travel disruption because of the Russian Ukraine situation. Anyone postponing yet? I'm still planning to go unless WW3 erupts.

Any reduction in the summer Slavic inundation will only improve Egypt as a destination……and is to be welcomed!

I would agree, being an English snob! But our Egyptian hosts need their cash.

I suppose they do…..but it’s turned Hurghada and Sharm into Islamic versions of Benidorm. Many of the Russians/ Ukranians I’ve observed here can be described as “ boorish” at best. Heaven help the unwary west European who finds themselves at a hotel favoured by them. You read of nightmare scenarios, drunken brawls, dining rooms looking as if they’ve hosted Attila the Hun etc.Teddyboy wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 2:11 pm "Any reduction in the summer Slavic inundation will only improve Egypt as a destination……and is to be welcomed!"

But that hasn’t stopped Egypt showing extraordinary generosity to the substantial number of Ukrainian tourists trapped here, with their flights home cancelled….due to their airports being overrun by Russian military.

It's no wonder then, that the (mainly Muslim) inhabitants of this country look down so upon Westerners, or perhaps white races, whom they perceive to all be Christian, and hence Christianity as well. Misconceptions and misunderstandings certainly abound between diverse cultures!

But a lot of them don't like parting with their cash. We had a Russian lady several years ago not wanting to pay for breakfast but asking if she could use the hotel kitchen to boil her own egg.............Teddyboy wrote: Fri Feb 25, 2022 2:11 pm "Any reduction in the summer Slavic inundation will only improve Egypt as a destination……and is to be welcomed!"

And tipping doesn’t seem to be a habit practiced by many of them either!
The only good thing the local Egyptian hotel staff here in Hurghada have to say about their Russian guests are that the women are more accommodating
Quite a number have married their “ baboushka”…and a fair number of Russian women now live here.

Re: Postponing your trip - Russia
We once had a Ruski mother and daughter arrive at our place on spec one night, with the old one's husband in tow as well. Apparently, they lived in Hurghada. Looking back at just how awful they were, I'm surprised that we even let them across the threshold.
Needless to say that they were shown the door before they got anywhere near the bedroom!!! I'm shuddering here at the memory of it.

Left to my own devices, I'd probably try that one too! It's just as well that my beloved doesn't let me go anywhere by myself, lol.
