Have you asked them how they came to that conclusion ? There's more to it than just the pyramids lining up with Orion's belt, so, some rationale is required.
After all, one could argue Cygnus is a closer match to the alignment of the pyramids than Orion's belt. .

Well it reached the hundreds and I'm bored with it now.
But as I said ' Hancock probably prefers people talking about him rather than people
not talking about him.
All I said was "Adrian Gilbert had understood the correlation before Hancock...

Ancient Egyptian Sky Lore: Rethinking the Conventional Wisdom:
by Joanne Conman
I remember a very cever line I read in an old book about Egyptology.
It is apparent to some, that the ancient Egyptian civilisation went into rapid decline after contact with the west.

The “some” don’t know much about ancient Egyptian civilisation if they think contact with the West led to their decline.
It started after the New Kingdom with invasions from the South and subsequently what you would now call the middle east. Alexander and, later, the Romans only finished off what Nubians and Persians had already undermined.
Like most empires, the Egyptian civilisation rotted from the inside with inbreeding and overbreeding...leading to civil strife amongst the rulers and subsequent invasion by neighbours .

It's clear what the author meant,. Not what you have described there Newcastle by taking a more literal stance...
What amazes me about Egyptology is that if they dig something out of the ground they are an expert on what they have found. ?
Don't forget, academia adopted archeology in the late 19th century. Just as things were getting interesting.

Too cryptic for me.
Humour me......so what did he mean?

Aaaah....maybe he meant that, after scientific analysis of all things Egyptian ( mostly by western archaelogists), the “ magic” went out of this mysterious country and the religio-fanatics, pseudo-scientists and other charlatans were thoroughly debunked.
Quite right IMHO

That the understanding of how the ancients lived, and that they clearly had a more advanced civilisation than we are led to believe.
That is the decline.
Wether this was deliberate or was a lack of understanding is up for debate. It seems that academia is not prepared to question itself or take a fresh look, so maintaing the status quo is the easiest option.
So back to the pyramids, the question as to thier true purpose has never been answered or studied, and to say they were tombs is quite a ridiculous statement to still be making, and even admitting that they do not know the purpose or function would at least be a step in the right direction. Though by virtue of the fact that the name Pyramid suggests that the ancient Greeks did know its function but did not make that public.

Your quote here John reminds me of a friend of my grandfathers who went off to work in the then country of Rhodesia in the mid 70's, but because of white rule, he was kicked out and returned to Egypt, but after independence around 1980, he was welcomed back with opened arms.
He went back to work into the area known as Great Zimbabwe, a ancient place of civilisation, which was ruled by kings. During 20th century much of this knowledge was suppressed by the white minority, being that the 'black man' could not ever have reached such a standard.
Today for those who know and are interested can SEE the real truth for themselves, without fear of ridicule that my grandfathers friend went though. This taught me to keep an open mind on anything of interest.

Possibly bored with the crap some people post?
There’s a big difference between an open mind and an empty one
P.S.
@John Landon Happy to discuss weird theories on pyramids or ancient aliens...on Myth, Magic & Spirituality
